Wednesday Word: The Incredible Sacrifices of Nurses For so many nurses, many Goldfarb nurses, stories of inspiration--like the ones told in the Allegheny Health Network video--are all too common. That’s why we wanted to share it with you. Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College wholeheartedly echoes the sentiment: Nurses are modern-day heroes in the fight against COVID-19. While Goldfarb is proud that Heroes Train Here, we know that this journeyespecially thi...s yearhas come with unimaginable commitment and sacrifice. Thank you isn’t enough to express our profound gratitude for all you do.
Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College Announce Retirement of President Dr. Nancy Ridenour
According to Dr. Justin Schneider, assistant professor at Goldfarb School of Nursing, caring is hard to teach and assess as an educator. In his article, Using a Novel to Explore Complex Themes of Caring, Dr. Schneider offers tips to nurse educators from the perspectives of his students in Goldfarb’s NUR 3370: Gerontological Nursing course. Dr. Schneider’s article is based on an assignment he created in which students read a memoir written by a man who returns home to Missour...i to care for his mother, who is battling dementia. Students then explored the challenges of being a caregiver by reflecting on the meaning of care, their attitudes about caring, as well as how it applies to caring for both patients and families. This exploration is published in Nurse Educator and is cited in PubMed/MEDLINE, CINAHL, Scopus, and other indexes. https://bit.ly/3qmm6y6

Wednesday Word: Happy Thanksgiving! Although Thanksgiving may look different this year, there is still so much to be thankful for. We hope our students, faculty, and staff have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
Wednesday Word: THE WAIT Waiting isn’t easy. It can often be difficult to find patience for something so greatly anticipated--and so it is with the 2020 presidential election. Many waited most of the night or woke this morning, eager to know the winner! The evening progressed, the night returned and sun arose--votes were still being counted. It was then that potential exuberance returned to anxiousness.... In this place of overwhelming anticipation, many of us are forced to discover a great strengthpatience. In our contemporary world of instant messaging and connection through social media, we often stay on alert. Yet, today, we waitand waiting isn’t always easy. There is power in the process of patience. Even if the eventual outcome is not what you desire, it is the process that teaches us most about ourselves. It is said we plant seeds from which we wish for. Yesterday, we planted a seedfrom it, we wish for tolerance, kindness and perseverance. We hope that it sprouts the best of who we are and hope to be.
It's Election Day! Show us your "I Voted" stickers in the comments section below!
Attention Students! Veterans and Supporters Together wants to see your "I voted" stickers! *Please remember that taking pictures inside the voting booth is illegal. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PICTURE INSIDE THE VOTING BOOTH- IT WILL NOT BE COUNTED*
