A few of our Lyceum ghosts have some hints about the future...

Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre 23.10.2020

Though this year has not been what any of us might have hoped, it has opened up the possibility for our staff to complete some valuable behind-the-scenes projects and improvements. Our Scenic Designer, Ryan J. Zirngibl, has been working hard to put our scene shop and props areas in better order and prepare for future productions. As he has been busily unearthing the physical relics of Lyceum past and present, in preparation for Lyceum future, our Company Manager, Paula Danner..., has been similarly excavating our archives and carefully digitizing our collection of posters, playbills and articles. Many of you have been following our history posts, as we share some of these treasures of Lyceum history with you here on Facebook; what we have been able to show you here is JUST the tip of the iceberg. Now it's your turn - do you have a favorite Lyceum memory you'd like to share? Add it to the comments below! Is there a production or moment in our history you'd like to see represented here, that we haven't shown yet? Comment below to tell us about your favorites - we will look through our newly digitized archives and, if we have your request, will share it just for you! And please, IF you are able, consider taking a moment to learn about donations to help The Lyceum make it to future seasons. Thanks to some amazingly generous individuals and organizations, we have a 60 for 60 Challenge that will meet any new or increased donations dollar for dollar, up to $60,000 in total, in honor of this landmark year in our history. Visit our site for more information about how to become a Lyceum backer today: https://lyceumtheatre.org/supporters/ Special thanks, as always, to all of our supporters, volunteers and community members who make The Lyceum YOUR mid-Missouri professional theatre. We are in the "heart" of Missouri in more ways than one.

Rebecca Stevens Early and Steve Bertani shared a few more images from last night’s physically-distanced trunk-or-treat in Marshall. We were able to hand out over 1,000 treats thanks to a small army of volunteers! Pictured below (left to right in the first image) are Stacey Thompson, Quin Gresham, Rebecca Stevens Early, Katie Shannon and Craig McDaniel

Producing Artistic Director Quin Gresham and Lyceum board member Katie Shannon are all gussied up and handing out bags of goodies at the Marshall trunk-or-treat tonight! A whole crew of jolly helpers came together to create the goody bags recently at the home of Rebecca Stevens Early, and to hand them out tonightthis is the sort of care and support that keeps The Lyceum going. A huge thank you to Rebecca, Katie Shannon, Nikki Fahnestock, Stacey Thompson, Kay Kuecker, and Craig McDaniel who has helped out tonight or over the past several weeks (including Green Printers of Marshall) to make sure we could do something to give back to our community and kiddos tonight.

You may have noticed that we’re trying some new digital programming this fall at The Lyceum! We recently concluded Remote Control with Max Major, a live, interactive production that you could experience right in your living room, along with a box of goodies mailed to you before the show! You really can’t beat this sort of up close and personal fun, right in your own home. But don’t take OUR word for how cool these interactive shows can be! Click the video below for a fun rev...iew of Max Major by Monica Senecal Palmer, Russ Palmer, Gabe and Anna! (And stay tuned as we will be sharing more from them and other patrons who enjoyed the fun in the near future) If you missed Max Major, there’s good news! We’ve got more of these shows on the horizon, beginning with our Cruise in the Box production in a couple of weeks. You will also be mailed a box of goodies for this one, and can include your family in this live interactive experience at home for one fee. Don’t wait to sign up, thoughreserve your spot early as virtual seating is limited and we need to allow time for your special box to arrive in the mail! By the end of The Lyceum’s 2012 season, holiday programming had become fairly common: It’s a Wonderful Life, A Tuna Christmas, etc. There were a number of Christmas shows in our season during the 2010s, but every single one of them had already closed by the time Thanksgiving came around, remembers Quin Gresham, The Lyceum’s fourth Artistic Director. We were always afraid of the wintery weather of December and, for a long time, viewed that part of the calendar as untouchabl...Continue reading

We are sad to report the loss of a true Lyceum hero: Ted Fisher. Ted was on the Lyceum's board from the late 70s through the mid 2000s and was such an important part of Arrow Rock life. Many Lyceum board meetings were held in Ted's living room on High Street. Many memorable Lyceum parties took place in his back yard. Ted was one of the first Lyceum board members to own a computer and his calculations helped encourage the theatre's expansion in the early 90s. Ted had a brillia...nt mind and an incredibly kind heart. All of us at the Lyceum send our love and prayers to his wife Julie and the rest of his family. We are profoundly grateful to be a part of Ted's legacy. On the left, Ted and his wife Julie with Timothy Shew around his famous fire pit, May 2018. Ted's old home is seen in the background. In the center is Ted on a ladder in the early 1980s painting the theatre. On the right is Ted with the Lyceum's second artistic director, Michael Bollinger at the groundbreaking of the 1992 expansion. Ted deserves a lot of credit for seeing that dream into reality.

2010 marked our celebration of The Lyceum’s 50th season. The recognition was confusing for some because, if you counted 1961 as year "zero" and then each year following as an anniversary (as we do when tallying people's birthdays) it was only the theatre’s 49th year. However, if you include the 1961 season as " year one" (which it was, since we had a full season of performances that year), you’ll see that it adds up. The pandemic of 2020 has solved this little problem for u...Continue reading

2007 began with the construction of The Lyceum’s new housing facility, built to replace the original 1973 Swanson Hall (which burned in 2004). The new facility, originally known as Hotel Lyceum II, had twice the number of rooms of the old dorm and a completely separate building containing a large kitchen and laundry facilities. One of the major limitations the Lyceum faced, even before the dorm fire, was a lack of housing, said Quin Gresham, The Lyceum’s fourth Artistic Dir...Continue reading
