Tuesday Tip: Preview Safari Tab's with BigSur 11.1 If you don't like to keep track of Safari window's overlapping all over your screen you can use tabs to switc...h between your pages with one safari window. The more window tabs you have the smaller the tabs get and it starts to get hard to remember which website is in a tap. Not to worry with BigSur a new feature with Safari lets you preview tabs. Instead of opening a tab to get a idea of what it's about, simply hover your cursor over the tab in question, and you'll see a small preview of the website appear. Tuesday Tip: Add Widgets to Your Home Screen in iOS 14 One of the customizable features of iOS 14 are the widget options you can add to your Home screen. Adding... these can range from fun, such as adding featured photos, to useful, such as having the weather front and center for your daily planning. Fortunately, widgets are easy to add so you can customize your home screen to your exact taste. Here's how to add a Widget. 1) Unlock your iOS Device if its locked. 2) Press and hold your finger on the home screen until the icons wiggle. 3) Press the "+" in the upper left corner. 4) Apple will suggest widgets. If your desired widget is there, select it. 5) If you don't see the widget you want to add, scroll down or use the search bar at the top of the Window. Some widgets will have multiple screens or formats to choose from. 6) After you select your options press the "Add Widget" at the bottom of the window. 7) Now you can position your custom widget any where on the home screen by dragging to a position. 8) Press "Done" at the top right when you are happy with your choice. Tuesday Tip: Control Center w/ macOS11 Big Sur In Big Sur, Apple was kind enough to bring one of the coolest iOS features to MacOS: The Control Center. Control... Center is an easier way to get access to essential controls, such as display and keyboard brightness, sound volume, Wi-Fi connections, and more. Click on any of these and you'll get additional options. You can also customize the Control Center by going to System Preferences - Dock & Menu Bar. My favorite thing about Big Sur's Control Center is that you can drag any item from the Control Center to the menu bar on top of the screen to get one-click access to that particular option. Tuesday Tip: Double- or triple-tap on the back of the phone to trigger actions With iOS 14 a new accessibility feature called Back Tap makes it possible to trig...ger system features, like multitasking or Control Center, or launch a Shortcut just by tapping on the back of your iPhone two or three times. Find the feature in Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap. Pick the number of taps you want to use, and then you'll see a list of actions you can initiate. For example, you can triple-tap on the back of your phone to take a screenshot or launch Siri. When I first read about this feature, I thought it would be all too easy to prompt it just by putting my iPhone in my pocket or placing it on my desk. But that hasn't been the case at all -- the phone seems good at identifying the tap pattern before it activates. Tuesday Tip: Copy files to iOS devices in Finder with Catalina Apple has moved iOS device management out of iTunes and into the Finder with Mac OS 10.15 Catalin...a. Once you’ve connected an iOS device to your Mac and entered your passcode to allow the Mac to be a trusted device, you can click on the Files tab and get a look inside the storage on your iOS device. This isn’t anything new, but the Finder is a much more sensible place for it. Remember there are two kinds of Data, Data that is backed up and Data you haven't lost yet! Tuesday Tip: Banish newly downloaded apps from your home screen You just used some quality time to organize your home screens, adding widgets and keeping just y...our most important apps, only to have all of your hard work wasted when you download a new app. Instead of letting your iPhone put apps on your home screen when you install them, send them directly to the App Library until you have a chance to test them. Open Settings > Home Screen and in the NEWLY DOWNLOADED APPS section, select App Library Only. You can easily find recently downloaded apps in the App Library's Recently Added category, which should be the top-right folder when you view it. Now your new downloads don't mess up your home screens and you don't have to decide where to put the new apps until they prove they're worthy. Hint: to get to the App Library quick swipe left to right on the dots of your Home screen, then swipe right to left on the last page of your Home screens.
