This afternoon September 2, 2021, around 3:00 PM, The Andrew County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a local business owner reporting theft of firearms. The owner said that the suspect fled from the business in a small black passenger vehicle with Arkansas license plates. Our dispatch center placed the information to all officers and surrounding agencies to watch for the suspect vehicle. A short time later, we received reports of a small black passenger vehicle with Arka...nsas plates traveling in the wrong lane of traffic at a high rate of speed. The Missouri State Highway Patrol spotted this vehicle and attempted to stop the car. The car then started fleeing from officers. During the time officers were chasing this vehicle, it was determined the vehicle was stolen. Andrew County deputies joined in on the chase and attempted to use stop sticks to end the pursuit several times. At one point, stop sticks were successful. With the assistance of the Savannah Police Department, Country Club Police Department, and Saint Joseph Police Department, we were able to get the vehicle stopped, and the suspect was taken into custody. The stolen firearms from the Andrew County business were also recovered in the vehicle at the end of this incident. I am aware of the dangers involved with chases. However, with this person stealing firearms, traveling the wrong way on our public roadways, and traveling at extreme speeds, we had to stop this deadly situation. Sheriff Grant Gillett

School starts tomorrow in Andrew County! The ACSO wants you to remember a few safety tips. SLOW DOWN: School traffic means more people will be walking, riding ...bikes, and dropping off students. Slow down and share the road. PAY ATTENTION: Children will be exiting buses and cars to get to school. Never pass a stopped vehicle that may be waiting for a child you can’t see. PHONE DOWN: Your text can wait. Get rid of distractions and simply drive. Take a little extra care and caution near school zones and together we can make this a safe start to the school year.

Saturday is opening day for the Missouri firearm deer season. If you hear gun shots out in the country keep in mind it might just be people hunting. Hunters be respectful of other people’s property. Purple paint on a tree is the same as a no trespassing sign. Do not enter any property without permission. Enjoy your time in the woods and have a safe season.
