This Giving Tuesday, Share the Warmth With Us! We are very disappointed to not host you all this year for our annual Share the Warmth Fundraiser, benefitting our Winter Warming Shelter. The community this event brings together, the raffle prizes from great businesses around St. Louis, and of course the chili, are a treasured tradition for us, and we hope to bring this event back in person next year. On December 1st, nonprofits around the world will be raising funds for Givi...ng Tuesday. Giving Tuesday is an opportunity for people around the world to stand together in unityto use their individual power of generosity to remain connected and heal. This year, the goal of our Giving Tuesday fundraiser is to raise funds for our Winter Warming Shelter, in lieu of our Share the Warmth event. Our Winter Warming Shelter, known as, My Mother’s House, provides emergency overnight shelter to those in need, as well as two hot meals, and transportation assistance. In addition to the overnight shelter, we offer daytime services of showers, lunch, laundry, and haircuts- provided once a week, year round. As we continue to see devastating effects of COVID-19 on our communities, our shelter operations and outreach services this year will look quite different. Typically, we open our shelter 3 nights a week, when temperatures fall below 20 degrees. This year, we plan to open for additional nights each week, to accommodate for other emergency shelters who will not be able to open this winter. These additional nights will increase our utility costs, as well require additional staff support. With these new challenges, it will be even more critical that we continue to provide our unhoused guests with a safe and secure experience this winter. Thank you to Nestle Purina PetCare Company, a longtime supporter of AmeriCorps St. Louis, who has already pledged $1,500 towards this fundraiser. This is a great start, but we will need much more to adequately support our altered operations this winter. California, Missouri, Florida, oh my! Check out the map below to see where our teams are serving this week. One project site of note is Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park, a new site for us with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources! The park was originally constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps, so it's great for us to continue the legacy of national service in our state park system.
