I've made plenty of my own scrolls (jigs all over the place here) but as a rule, if I can buy it, I can buy it for less than the time to make it. This is my design. I built the panel first and then set it into the railing as I was building the rails. What you can appreciate about this is that it's all forged steel instead of a piece of cast iron. You probably can't see it but all of the scrolls are banded together. It's not necessary but it's cool. Very Old World look. The banding goes on while they're cherry red hot.

I had a request to create a price range within my company info. That's not an easy thing to do for a company like this since I couldn't write anything in the field. I could only pick between one thru four dollar signs. I picked three but isn't it all relative? I'm cheap compared to buying a jet airplane...... expensive compared to a dozen eggs... The formula here is simple. There's materials and there's time. Generally, time is the most expensive but not always. I've turned f...ifty dollars worth of steel into something someone paid $200.00 for. I've turned fifty dollars worth of steel into something someone paid 3 grand for...... Time being the variable. What I CAN promise is that I don't waver from my bid price. Upon occasion a thing comes along too complicated to accurately estimate the time. The arrangement on those things is that we'll figure it out after the dust settles based on the time that was spent. I would be uncomfortable with that as a client but then my life has a budget. These people don't have those worries. 17 years and I've never NOT have someone smiling and thanking me as they write the final check. Only had one person stiff me for a sweet set of indoor octagon stair rails (The final payment).. but she wound up paying it off $25.00 a week. (She had been in a car wreck)..... Any questions, just ask! See more

They were supposed to send me a photo after they put the glass top on it. I hope they do. The dough bowl is very large and from Eastern Europe somewhere. The idea is to fill the bowl with seasonal stuff..... Metal work isn't showing up very well. Square knots and bean stalks.... but you get the idea.

Not all that "fancy" stuff going on here but I'm proud of the scale of this project. Lot's of details to work out that you don't really see at a glance. It all went fine considering the staircase was an afterthought for the owners and the house was practically done when they decided they wanted one.

Man!.... I'm way behind at posting on here. I'll start trickling them in. Here's railing on some stone steps leading down to Table Rock Lake in Kimberling City. You can't see the center panel features very well because they blend in with the background so much (plus I'm a lousy photographer) but they alternate between Dogwood blossoms on branches and a wrapping vine with berries on diamonds. At the bottom there was a small barrier extension to make you turn away from a step that was too tall so I filled in the underside of that with some vine work as well.

Starts with a sketch. Then build it

Our hearts go out to our neighboring city of Joplin. We have family and friends there and, sadly, some losses. I'll be looking for ways that AmCraft can help when the start the long, hard road to re-building.
