According to Psychology Today, tattoos are a form of enhancement. People see it as a way of taking the blank canvas of a human body, and somehow making it better. It’s very similar to anyone going on a diet or getting plastic surgery in order to make themselves look and feel better than they did before they got a tattoo.

Did you know: Mike Tyson’s tattoo artist sued Warner Bros. over the Hangover 2’s use of Mike Tyson’s trademarked face tattoo.

The earliest known tattoo that represents something other than an abstract pattern is of the god Bes, the Egyptian god of revelry. These tattoos have been found on female Nubian mummies dating from 400 B.C.
