50 Years Since the Attica Uprising...

American Friends Service Committee St. Louis 01.09.2021

"So while the decadeslong fight led by students, parents, activists, and organizations alike to abolish police in schools is perhaps more readily understandable, we must also be calling for the abolition of policing in schools more broadly. The abolition of policies, practices, and structures that facilitate and support the narrative that Black students are a problem. The abolition of a system that uses our tax dollars to wield both tasers and textbooks against us. The abolition of the pipeline that funnels our babies from classrooms to cages." https://level.medium.com/funneling-our-children-from-classr

Housing Justice League’s Natalie McLaughlin joins to share the work of our partner organization in these efforts. They will speak for 15-20 minutes, then open for questions and dialogue. See more

At last July's Children's March we marched with our children through downtown St. Louis. Senate Bill 66 would allow those who harm and injure children while protesting to escape accountability. This cannot happen. Please call your MO legislators to speak out against SB66. https://www.stltoday.com//article_486cfb09-0917-5fe1-91e7-

We must be vocal and work together to protect the integrity of our election. Voting is human right, and as such, everyone should have the opportunity to vote and feel confident that their vote will be counted. Take our pledge to protect our democracy at afsc.org/pledge.

**For young people ages 14-21** This is AFSC St. Louis' LAST virtual learning session on abolition. (Which also means it's your last opportunity to attend a workshop so that you can participate in the #RealStudentSafety Showcase and receive a $100 gift card!) Information about the #RealStudentSafety Showcase:... Create and share a piece of art, a project proposal, or an essay about what you would do to create real student safety in your school if you had the resources that your district currently allocates for police and security. (SLPS has $6.3 million budgeted for "security services.") This is NOT a competition. To participate and receive a $100 gift card, you must fill out an application (to be released soon!), participate in one of the analysis building workshops (last one is Sunday, 9/20 from 1-3pm!), share about your art, proposal, or essay on social media (with the #RealStudentSafety), and participate in the showcase (date and location TBD!) Register at http://tinyurl.com/y4hog3sk to receive the Zoom Link or email [email protected].
