I had a conversation yesterday with a friend who was trying out AHFW for the first time. She had been going to another gym but didn't always feel comfortable there and was a little intimidated when she worked out. She sometimes felt like she was being judged and was uncomfortable doing her strength training and stretching around others. That does not mean that other gyms are bad, it just means that sometimes women like to exercise in an environment where they feel comfortable... and at ease. Gymtimidation is a real thing! At Abundant Health, we get it! We are all different ages, shapes, and sizes, but have the same goals in mind. Better health. Increased strength. Improved flexibility and balance. Weight loss. We keep each other motivated and accountable and have fun while we do it. At AHFW, you are stepping into a comfortable, judgment-free, safe environment surrounded by a community of like-minded women. No gymtimidation allowed here! So take that step and join us---you'll be glad you did! See more

Happy Friday! Do you find yourself tossing and turning at night? Unfortunately, it does NOT count as exercise. However, regular exercise WILL help you sleep better at night. Experts believe that sleep and exercise have a bidirectional relationship. In other words, engaging in a consistent exercise program can potentially help you sleep better and getting an adequate amount of sleep may promote healthier physical activity levels during the day.

More often than not, our desire to lose weight is motivated by shame and disappointment in the way we perceive ourselves. We need to make choices from a place of love and self-compassion rather than body shame. Before you begin a new diet or fitness program, examine your life holistically. Find the areas that need improvement. Do you require more sleep? How does your body feel throughout the day, especially after eating certain foods? Are you fully hydrated? Do you need more movement? Identify areas of change that will complement your strategy for weight loss. The goal should be achieving a healthier lifestyle, not just losing the weight. When you're making choices with wellness in mind, weight loss will happen naturally. Love your body, don't punish it. Take care of it with proper nourishment, exercise, and rest.

Happy Friday! And welcome OCTOBER! At AHFW, we believe in keeping in shape too. But the shape of an old lady? What is that? We know plenty of "old ladies" that are in great shape. In fact, we have several members in their golden years that exercise regularly and are in great shape. Some of them could even run circles around our younger ladies! So don't settle for any less than your body deserves. Stop in and try a free workout or cardio class and get rid of that "old lady body" mentality. It's never too late to get started on your fitness journey.

This month, we have not one, but TWO Spotlight members! (these 2 are so awesome, we couldn't just pick 1) Meet Sheila Switlik and Jen Klein...or the dynamic duo as we like to call them. These BFF's have been members for only 2 months and have already seen pounds shed and inches lost. Sheila said that since joining AHFW, she has a more positive mindset about exercising and she loves the socialization. Jen said the workouts are fun, especially with others, and doing Tai Chi classes has become a spiritual practice that grounds and centers her. These energetic ladies make working out on the circuit so much more fun, especially when they break out dancing to our Grease soundtrack. We are so pleased that they chose us to get fit with!
