Via Annie Rice, 8th Ward Alderwoman: The Board of Aldermen has no direct jurisdiction over SLPS - we do affect tax revenue for SLPS - but our new Education and Youth Matters Committee, created to try and better connect City Hall and SLPS, is hearing from Superintendent Dr. Kelvin Adams tomorrow at 1:00pm on the planned closure of some SLPS schools. We're also taking public comment if you'd like to join us - you'll need to sign up by notifying our Clerk by 11:00am tomorrow. T...he Board of Education is slated to vote on this closure plan next Tuesday evening at their meeting. https://www.slps.org/domain/8808 Here's the link to the nearly 3 hour town hall the Board of Education held last night: https://youtu.be/q6Fu4NZjSBI This is the link for our BOA hearing tomorrow: https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/events/eventdetails.cfm

In-person absentee voting STARTS TODAY in MO! Voting early absentee in person is the safest option to vote and ensure your vote is counted. Missouri does not ha...ve early voting, but we do have in person absentee voting. If you choose this option, starting today, through November 3rd, you may go to your local Board of Elections to cast an absentee ballot. When you do, you’ll have to select a reason for voting absentee, including confinement due to illness, religious reasons, health risks, or absence on election day, among others. Notarization is not required in person, but you will have to show some form of identification. If you live in St. Louis City, you may vote absentee in person by going to the Board of Elections at 300 N. Tucker Blvd. St. Louis, MO 63101. Of course, if you do not wish to vote in person at all, you can request an absentee ballot by sending an application (below) by mail or email to your local Board of Elections. Remember, when selecting a reason for absentee voting, if you select the second reason (confinement due to illness) or the last reason (over 65 or at-risk) you will NOT need to notarize your ballot. A ballot requested for any other reason will require a notary before mailing it in or submitting it in person. STL City Absentee Application: https://www.stlouis-mo.gov//Covid-Missouri-Absentee-Ballot) Statewide: https://www.sos.mo.gov//2020FillableBallotApplication-Gene). (The application must be completed and received by the Board of Elections by 5 PM on October 21st, and your completed ballot must also be RECEIVED by close of polls on election day, so ACT EARLY!) No-excuse mail-in ballot: If you don’t feel comfortable selecting a reason for absentee voting, you can also request a no-excuse mail-in ballot, but that WILL HAVE TO BE NOTARIZED, and must be returned via US mail, and RECEIVED by election day. (https://www.stlouis-mo.gov//Covid-Missouri-Mail-In-Ballot-) Our election on November 3rd is important and unique for so many reasons, and may be the most important election of our lifetime. But our access to the voting booth has changed and can be confusing (intentionally so, I might add). Below are the important details, deadlines, and resources for you to share with your friends and family. As always, if I can be of any assistance do not hesitate to reach out to me by email ([email protected]) or on my cell (314) 307-2713. Register to Vote by October 7th https://s1.sos.mo.gov/elections/voterregistration OR you may complete a paper registration form. Reliable sources & instructions: https://movote.org/ https://www.facebook.com/STLVPC/ https://www.sos.mo.gov/elections/goVoteMissouri http://motaryconnections.org/ (free notary options!) You can also always trust the Missouri Voter Protection Coalition with questions or for more info!
Thank you 9th Ward voters! Ward turnout for last week's Primary Election was 41.42%, with 2,762 ballots cast out of 6,669 voters registered in the Ward (up from 2018's turnout of 36.37%, 2251 ballots cast, and 6,189 registered voters). We hope for even better results in November's General Election!
