This is golden currant! It’s native to Missouri and attracts lots of pollinators like hummingbirds and butterflies. After it finishes flowering, it will begin to produce fruit that usually ripens in July-August. Many parts of the plant, including its fruit, are edible and have been known to have medicinal properties, as well as being a food source for many different birds (Missouri Botanical Garden).
This is ground phlox! It’s actually one of two types of phlox we have in the garden. The other kind of phlox is the garden-type that will bloom later this year. The ground-type blooms in multiple places throughout the garden, as well as in 3 different colors! It’s also known as carpet phlox, since it grows close to the ground!
Spring has definitely sprung and lots of plants are starting to flower in the garden, like these tulips! Tulips are grown all around the world and come in about 100 different species. Their blooms can be all colors, except true blue, and they’ve been known to bloom at all altitudes from sea level to alpine areas! (Missouri Botanical Garden)
