Though we remain on hiatus for the time being, the MPO is wishing the very best for our sisters and brothers in the arts as they confront the many challenges posed by the pandemic. Nonetheless, we're thrilled to announce that we'll return to the stage in a grand collaboration with Springfield Regional Opera next fall: a concert performance of the incredible Turandot by Puccini! Stay tuned for updates, and support your arts and artists!

With our Charles R. Hall Masterworks II season finale concert coming on February 5th, we'll be celebrating a bit of SDCO history by posting some 'vintage' concert posters over the next week. COMPOSER FEATURE Rehearsals are underway for our February 5th Masterworks II world premiere of Carlyle Sharpe’s new work for chorus and orchestra--we're thrilled! "The Springfield-Drury Civic Orchestra has been asking me to write another choral/orchestral work since they performed the Missouri premiere of Proud Music of the Storm with the Drury University Chorale back in 2008. Unlike Proud Music of the Storm, which was taken from a single poem by Walt Whitman, this work is drawn from 11 different poems by Whitman which focus on freedom, death, and the triumphs and messiness of democracy, as well as the importance of women and mothers in society."
