Finding my Purpose

As a man of science and as a man of faith the current worldwide pandemic has been of great concern to me. As a man of science I appreciate the critical need to ...prevent the spread of infection. As a man of faith, however, I view the current pandemic as only one of many ills that plague our world, including hate, civil unrest, racism, violence, dishonesty, and lack of civility. There is, however, a remedyone that may seem surprisingbecause it flies in the face of our natural intuitions. I am referring to the healing power of gratitude. So, dear friends, may I prescribe two activities to help us experience the healing power of gratitude. First, I invite youjust for the next seven daysto turn social media into your own personal gratitude journal. At the end of seven days see if you feel happier and more at peace. Tag your friends in your social media posts and invite them to participate as well. We’ll use the hashtag #GiveThanks. Second, let us unite in thanking God through daily prayer. Jesus Christ taught His disciples to pray by first expressing gratitude to God and then petitioning Him for the things we need. Prayer brings forth miracles.

One night my Senior year I had stayed up late doing homework. Though I wasn't fully done with my homework, I stopped because I was absolutely exhausted. I just wanted to go to bed. I stood up to go downstairs, where my room was. My room was always cold and I had to let the little heater in my room run for about 10 minutes before I could go to bed. That night when I went down, I was happy because someone had turned on my heater, and my room was already warm, so I could go to bed right away! Although that may seem like a small act, it was really thoughtful and it touched me, helping me know how loved I was! What is a small act of kindness that touched you?

The mark of a true friendship is when the waves are rough and when the road you travel together is bumpy. As we come together in love and friendship we see the love of God manifested in us all.
