News out of MoDOT Kansas City today - plans are moving ahead for the I-29 bridge replacements at NW 56th Street in 2021. While we don't have specific timing y...et, what we do expect are two ramp closures that will impact traffic in and around Riverside. The ramps from NW Gateway Avenue onto Northbound I-29 and from Northbound I-635 to Northbound I-29 will be closed during the bridge replacement projects. I-29 will remain open, with two lanes in each direction, as the bridges over NW 56th Street are replaced. NW 56th Street underneath the bridges will be closed to traffic during the project. I-29 bridges over NW Waukomis Drive are expected to be replaced in 2022. As we learn more, you'll be the first to know. As always, drive safely and keep road workers safe as they make these important improvements to our regional road network.

Police are encountering increasing overdose deaths from pills laced with fentanyl used by teenagers. Officers in Kansas City and elsewhere in the metro are seei...ng overdoses and deaths among teens and young adults linked to pills that users believe to be prescription pain medication. Often referred to as percs (short for Percoset) and M-30s (how Oxycodone pills are stamped), some of these illegal pills are laced with the deadly drug fentanyl, and it’s impossible to tell which ones. As little as 0.25 milligrams of fentanyl can be fatal. Because the pills are produced for the black market, there is no regulation of any kind about what is in them. While the drugs have spread throughout the metro area, the most overdoses have occurred among teenagers in the Northland. Some have survived and some haven’t. A gas line has been hit at 50th & Waukomis. Please avoid the area until repair are made. (This is NOT a repeat from 3 weeks ago.)

At 4:30 this morning a prowler was spotted under a truck on 50th St, likely attempting to steal its catalytic convertor. The perpetrator was scared off so is still at large. From scanning social media it appears there has been a rash of catalytic convertor thefts in the Northland in recent weeks, at all hours of the day and night. It possible, please park your vehicles someplace safe and well-lit, or where you can at least keep an eye on them. And report any suspicious behavior.
