Sam’s Club has introduced a convenient way for you to enjoy restaurant- quality Kansas City-style burnt ends at home. They visited Kansas City to taste a LOT of burnt ends; studying from KCBS member and championship pitmaster Todd John’s of @plowboysbbq. Member’s Mark is perfect for those nights you want burnt ends, but don’t have time to smoke a brisket! #sponsor https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=10159557920927682

Even though we have a lot going on, it's important to stop and take a moment to recognize our veterans. So many KCBS members have been in the armed forces, so please join us in saying thank you on this Veterans Day - we are grateful for your service.

Thanks Food & Beverage Magazine for covering the 2020 KCBS World Invitational and Team of the Year awards https://www.fb101.com//2020-kansas-city-barbeque-society-/
The KCBS World Invitational, presented by Smithfield, is a championship of champions. Master Series teams awarded Overall Grand Champion (1st) or Reserve Grand Champion (2nd) at KCBS-sanctioned contests are eligible to compete. This puts the top teams head-to-head when they gather in Mayetta, KS on Friday and Saturday for what will be the only KCBS-sanctioned world championship of 2020!
KCBS proudly celebrates some of the Top Contenders in our Master Series Team of the Year Points Chase. Team Name: Tebo Creek BBQ Head Cook Name: Greg Hastie... 2020 BBQ Season KCBS-Sanctioned competition results: GCs: 1 RGCs: 1 1st place by category: Chicken: 1 (180) Pork: 1 (180) # of Years Competing: 6 Favorite moment of 2020 BBQ Season: There have been several favorite moments this year and they are not always BBQ results oriented. We love this BBQ life and our family that we compete with week in and week out so there are so many special moments. However, the very last weekend of the competition season for 2020 was really special for us. It took all season for us to find a Grand Championship in 2020 and we did it at one the very best competitions in the country. Smoke in the Spring in Osage City Ks is always a special event; loaded with 100 absolutely fantastic teams and we were fortunate enough to be awarded GC. By far the biggest win of our career. The Team of the Year World Championship is such a crucible of competition BBQ. I have watched and followed friends and other BBQ champions across the nation on this brutal journey and I’m always in awe of what they can accomplish. In any given year this chase is a brutal marathon and requires an incredible level of commitment in time and craft to achieve champion status. This pandemic year has presented so many different challenges; challenges that could not be foreseen. While this season might have fewer weeks to compete it was no less challenging. It was a sprint and for many teams there was no breaks once we started cooking in June. The competition was fierce week in and week out all over the country with no place to hide. Without question take a class if you want to get into competition BBQ. I have taken several, in truth I try to take at least one each and every year. Taking a class from these professionals absolutely helps cut the learning curve. I really like the idea of the single meat contests. I truly believe this can help in getting some BBQ enthusiasts that are interested but might be intimidated by the thought of competing in a master series event. A single meat contest could be less intimidating and provide the launching point for a cook to dip their toes into the competition world.
Steve from Cookout Coach and D’Qued Barbeque put together a great video at the 2020 KCBS World Invitational, presented by Smithfield. Head over to the KCBS YouTube page to check it out and more. https://bit.ly/3gpERvO
The 2020 KCBS World Invitational will feature several ancillary contests on Friday night. The sweetest of these will be the Solo Foods Dessert Contest. Solo Foods has baking ingredients like no other, from a brand you can trust. Contestants have the opportunity to use any of Solo Foods baking line in their dessert creations for a chance at bonus prize money. We can’t wait to see and taste what teams create! #IAMKCBS #BakeUpSomeLove
KCBS proudly celebrates some of the Top Contenders in our Master Series Team of the Year Points chase. Team Name: Heavy Smoke BBQ Head Cook Name: Chris Schafer... 2020 BBQ Season KCBS-Sanctioned competition results: GCs: 4 RGCs: 2 1st place by category: Chicken 3 Pork 3 Brisket 1 # of Years Competing: 8 Favorite moment of 2020 BBQ Season: Winning back to back GC's at a double in Eureka IL in July! The title of Team of the Year is always a big one. In the shortened year it has been more fun because more teams are involved. In years prior, if you could cook 40 to 50 competitions you would be in the mix but now no team is able to cook more than 30. Take classes, ask questions, and practice a lot. The only way to become a top pitmaster is to cook a lot and learn.
It takes a truly exceptional cook to earn a score of 700 at a KCBS-sanctioned BBQ contest. The 700 Club honors those who achieve this rare honor. Congratulations to Rooters-N-Tooters, Tebo Creek BBQ, and Triple H BBQ! Check-out the complete list at https://www.kcbs.us/best_of_the_best.php
The 2020 KCBS World Invitational, presented by Smithfield, is just days away. It’s going to be an amazing weekend of competition with the top teams from all over vying to be crowned World Champion. See the full list of teams here: https://bit.ly/3eOnlRs
Our friends at Work Sharp remind us that the Work Sharp Whetstone goes above and beyond most whetstones available on the market. With removable angle guides and a water control base the traditional method of sharpening is combined with modern convenience. Oh, and plastic doesn’t grow mold. The water control base is non-porous and cleans easily.

The The Kansas City Barbeque Society Team of the Year points chase has been a thrill to watch as amazing pitmasters cooked their hearts out. At the end of this TOY year, we want to congratulate Redbones Competition BBQ Team who is the new World Champion in Backyard Series Chicken and Le La Q who is the new World Champion in Backyard Series Ribs.
