J. Huston Tavern 28.05.2021

We are pleased to announce that Alan Hagedorn has been named general manager of the J. Huston Tavern. Alan brings decades of restaurant and business management experience to his new role. For Alan, who worked as a server at the Tavern in his youth, the return to the iconic Arrow Rock restaurant brings his career full-circle. Alan, along with Chef Janet Carmack, plan to honor the Tavern’s tradition of providing hearty, homestyle country fare to hungry travelers. The menu will... continue to feature the Tavern’s famous fried chicken and Chef Janet’s award winning pork tenderloin sandwich, along with other traditional favorites such as country ham and beef brisket. Look for the Tavern’s wine selection to expand as Alan, a master sommelier, brings his impressive training and knowledge to the job. The Tavern is currently closed for the construction of a new and expanded kitchen to replace the kitchen destroyed in the May 2019 electrical fire. We anticipate reopening in early summer. In the meantime, Alan will be recruiting and training staff, and working with Chef Janet to plan some exciting special events for later in 2021. Watch this Facebook page for updates and announcements!

We are excited to see the Tavern progress since we last posted on November 25. As you can see, the new addition for housing food storage, supplies and utilities has been roofed. Framing for the three additional restrooms is almost complete. A purpose-made grease trap has been installed which should improve issues with the sewer lines. Very soon the contractor will move to inside work. The Tavern will continue as the oldest continuously operating restaurant west of the Mississippi.

While we are not open for Thanksgiving dinner as we usually have been in the past, we look forward to serving you next year. Progress is being made on the kitchen rebuild, and the footings are in place for three new additional restrooms!

Arrow Rock State Historic Site is holding its annual informational meeting at the historic site visitors' center 39521 Visitor Center Drive. Representatives fro...m the park system will be on hand to provide information about the sites and to answer questions. The public is invited to share comments and ask questions about the park and its operations. Input from the public is important to Missouri State Parks. These informational meetings, which are being held in all state parks and historic sites, help create a two-way communication. The meetings give staff the opportunity to let people know the current status and future plans for the park or site, and they offer visitors the opportunity to comment on the facilities. Social distancing and face masks are strongly encouraged.
