Most people have probably heard already but recently I have decided that it’s time to sell my herd. With college around the corner and some obstacles this year I’ve decided it’s the best decision. This was a decision I thought long and hard about because it has been a huge chapter in my life for the past five years. Raising sheep went beyond just a business, it helped me through difficult times in my life and created some of my best memories. I became more confident, I became... more patient, I became the best version of myself. I dealt with loss and experienced new life. I found peace and joy in watching my herd. I knew each sheep by name and built bonds with them. I will miss their personalities and spunk. I may have not achieved being the number one show lamb seller in Columbia or won all the prizes at the fair but I gained a lot more. I spent countless nights in the cold with new born lambs and hot summer days training show lambs. I built sheds, managed money, administered medication, worked with customers, spoke with other breeders, and had the best time doing it all. I was able to share my passion with kids, teenagers, and adults. Raising sheep was never a task, it was the best decision ever. As I close this chapter in my life my heart aches but I know that some day down the road I will be setting a date to go pick up five bred ewes again. I look forward to a new adventure.
Today one of my older ewes passed away. I’ve had her for five years and she holds a special place in my heart. Mama Ann was old and suffering but now she is at rest. I’ll miss seeing her in the field.
The ladies want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas!
Four years of lambing on the walls. Ready for year 5!
