To all those who have served we hope that you have a meaningful Veterans Day. Dan "Dry Dock" Shockley is a retired U.S. Navy, Operation Desert Storm, Enduring and Iraqi Freedom veteran, and an eight-year hereditary colon cancer warrior. "It was during my first, and only, routine colonoscopy in 2012, at the age of 51, that over 100 polyps were discovered."

The United States Preventive Services Task Force announced its intent to recommend that colorectal cancer screenings begin at 45 years old for individuals at average risk. What does this mean for patients? It means it is required that private insurance plans subject to the Affordable Care Act and Medicare plans provide coverage for the service without any co-pay or out-of-pocket costs to the patient. These CRC screening recommendations are still a draft. We urge you to share your story and voice your support for this new guidance directly to the USPSTF. Sign the letter of support below

One of the most common emotions that can be triggered amongst people who've faced cancer is fear of recurrence. This can occur with: upcoming scans and tests, the taste of a meal you often ate during treatment, seeing the exit sign you took to get to radiation appointments, the smell of antibacterial soap used at the hospital, and more. Activities like practicing gratitude, starting a new tradition, and finding reasons to celebrate large and small successes are just a few ways to take the power back and build up a library of positive experiences after cancer. Share how you have taken your power back after cancer in the comments below!
