Fezz and Daisy, our two resident fennec foxes, sure loved to show off for the camera crews! Thank you to Dagmar Midcap and the rest of the NBC 7 San Diego for helping us spread this important message about the exotic pet trade and the fur industry, which are both detrimental to foxes. Watch the news segment here: https://buff.ly/3mzqBnE *This footage was captured pre-Covid.

Who needs bunny ears when you have these eggcellently large ears? Our African painted dogs had such fun during their Easter egg hunt - though some had their head in the game more than others!

Swift foxes are making their way back to their historic range in Fort Belknap Indian Reservation in Montana with a little help from conservationists. "In the midst of the pandemic, as the story goes, a team set out to bring swift foxes back to a land they had disappeared from more than 50 years ago. Swift fox populations declined dramatically from the late 1880s through the 1960s. Estimates show that they now occupy 44% of their former range in the U.S. and just 3% in Canada." As the landscape changes and native habitats are lost for many wild animals, research is being conducted to understand how they respond and adapt to these changes. "A mammal native to South America’s savannas, the maned wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus) now lives in the Amazon Rainforest. That’s the finding of a recent study... which recorded 22 sightings of maned wolves in the Amazon over the past two decades."

Sound ON! What does the maned wolf say? Did you know that maned wolves aren't actually wolves? While there are many differences, one of the most distinct is that maned wolves don't howl... they roar bark! Our keepers were excited to capture this snippet of their unique vocalization, something many people never have an opportunity to hear or see.
