Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Jeanne Rene Mercier, CSJ who passed away on Oct. 31. She was 91 years of age. Sister Jeanne Rene was an educator and served in pastoral care. For 29 years, she served in Marquette, Michigan, at St. Peter Cathedral Parish as a parish minister to the sick and elderly, and then as a pastoral associate. She also served in pastoral care at Marquette General Hospital. May she rest in peace.

Hello, Beloved It was late April 2020. For the past months, COVID-19 directives on the Nazareth Living Center Campus pretty much kept residents in their rooms and visitors away. The feeling of isolation was growing stronger for Sister Joan Spalding. One day Sr. Joan gazed out her window from her third floor room in Carondelet Manor. This looks directly across to the east wing of St. Joseph’s Manor. Hmmm. These are my neighbors, my sisters. How can I reach out to them? How ...can I even say hello? Responding to God’s inspiration, Joan used her artistic talents. She had large sheets of paper such as those used for their calendar. She designed and cut out a large letter from each sheet. Then, taping the letters to her windows so she might feel more connected, Joan greeted them: Hello, Beloved. **Sister Joan Spalding, CSJ, ceramist/artist, created works of beauty at the Carondelet Art Studio for over 20+ years.

"They are set apart, not by their intelligence, talent, education, work, mother tongue or culture, but by the fact that, like Jesus and Mary, they have accepted their life as a vocation to holiness, an opportunity to receive and spread God's limitless love." Read the Sister Mary McGlone's commentary in it's entirety, on the Feast of All Saints.

Interesting article for this election season, featuring our own Sister Amy Hereford ... "The Catholic Church knows how to advocate for issues well and can bring its 'moral authority' to the table, said Sr. Amy Hereford, a canon lawyer and Sister of St. Joseph. And though 'it may be a short step from issue to candidate,' she said, "no candidate perfectly represents either the Catholic position or the Gospel values." Because politics is the art of the possible, 'it's always a t...radeoff on measured value.' 'You wouldn't want to stand beside a candidate only to find out later that they endorse some really harsh position,' Hereford said of the logic to the canon law. 'And that's where I say, 'Advocate issues.' ... We've got moral authority, and we've got a lot of experience and an intellectual tradition to bring to bear on that, whereas advocating for an individual candidate we always have flawed candidates.'"

THANK YOU! Our virtual Uncorked! event on Oct. 22 was a great success from the drive through wine pick ups in St. Louis and Kansas City to the launch of the virtual tasting video on our website. We passed out 160 bottles of wine to our donors and friends in our drive thru wine pick up. It was great to see so many familiar faces and some new ones, too. Thanks to all who participated and to our sisters who were present to welcome our guests at pick up. Click on the link to view the video and watch our sommeliers discuss the fine points of our featured Syncopation wine selections and how to have a great wine and chocolate experience: https://www.csjsl.org/ways-to-give/uncorked.
