Kansas City Public Library is holding a Veterans Writing Workshop, designed to help veterans, active military, and their family members develop writing and narrative skills that can empower them to tell their stories, whether they are true-life accounts or wholly original tales. Each of the sessions is free and conducted by professional writers and educators; they provide the same high level of instruction as a college or university writing course. The workshop series is free and open to veterans, active duty military, and veterans' family members. Children must be 16 years of age and accompanied by their parent or guardian. Check it out.
This week an Army Veteran and his family of 6 lost everything in a house fire. Because of your generosity, we were able to provide the deposit and first month's rent to get them quickly re-housed. His wife expressed concern about the upcoming holidays so our Vet Services team also matched them with a company who wanted to adopt a Veteran's family for Christmas. Emergency assistance funds and strong community partners are an important part of saying "yes" to a Veteran in crisis. If you are doing ok, please consider helping someone who isn't. https://vcpkc.z2systems.com/np/clients/vcpkc/donation.jsp
As night closes in on this National #DayOfTheDeployed, we take a moment to express our deepest gratitude for the hundreds of thousands of service members and their families who sacrifice so much for our nation. For those soldiers who cannot tuck their children into bed, spouses and friends who will lay awake with worry, or kids who count another day of waiting, we thank you. Tonight and every night

We knew our VCP Longmont, Colorado team was impressive, but packing 100 supply bags for Stand Down in a mobile tiny house just took them to a whole 'nother level. Today, the team is participating in their first Stand Down event for Veterans in Boulder, Broomfield, Larimer, and Weld Counties. VCP and our partner agencies are providing food, clothing and health screenings to their community's homeless and at-risk Veterans. Did you know Stand Down was modeled after a concept used during the Vietnam War? Stand Down provided a safe retreat for units returning from combat operations, offering battle-weary soldiers the opportunity to renew their spirit, health and overall sense of well-being. We're proud to help continue the mission. #StandDown
Who used their GPS today? We love them because they show us the best routes to travel and even warn of obstacles along the way. Many of the Veterans who walk through VCP's Veterans Outreach Center (8825 Troost Ave, KCMO 64131) are navigating difficult roads without the help of an aerial view and don't know their next turn. The Outreach Center serves any Veteran in the KC metro area regardless of housing status, income, or service record. Just like AAA, our staff is equipped ...to troubleshoot and provide assistance for almost any problem that comes a Veteran's way. Our "roadside assistance" might be food to get a hungry man through the day or case management to navigate a difficult heath issue. Pulling over and asking for help can be difficult, especially if you've never needed it before. Please call 816-599-6503 or stop by if you've hit a roadblock you just can't seem to get around. If you're not a Veteran, forward this to someone you know. Stick our address and number in your wallet in case of emergency. We are Veterans helping Veterans.
One of our Veterans showing up for coffee this morning...
Every Sunday, Personable Pets Dog Training comes out to the Village to work with our Veterans and their 4-legged housemates. Seeing Benny and Sasha in clothes is really just the best.
